Health and Wellness offers a bachelor of science (B.S.) degree in public health. Students in the department learn about health issues among diverse populations; factors influencing the health of individuals, families, and communities; health literacy; and cultural competence, with a predominant focus on health promotion.

HTW student travels through Europe for Comparative Health Policy and Law class

As a part of her Comparative Health Policy and Law class, Public Health major Alyssa Fuller traveled through Europe this summer comparing health care systems and policies. She traveled to London, Amsterdam and Geneva, Switzerland exploring each country’s health care system. The trip included stops at the World Health Organization and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Article in College Health in Action offers important perspective for health care professionals
Ethical discourse can be an important stress management strategy health service staff can use to talk about the kinds of issues that arise in the college health care environment. Susan Scholl, MS, CASAC, NCACII, CA, internship coordinator in the Department of Health and Wellness, authored the lead article in the September 2009 edition of College Health in Action on this topic.

Youth Empowerment Program
Providing opportunities for students in the Syracuse City School District
Students in the Department of Health and Wellness participate in the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) a collaboration between the department and the Syracuse City School District. The partnership provides opportunities for health and wellness students to work with at risk youth in the Syracuse community. YEP is a comprehensive development program working to increase middle schools student’s knowledge and skills. The program reduces engagement in risky behaviors, and provides middle school students with opportunities to make healthy lifestyle choices.
