Welcome to the College of Human Ecology
A message from the dean
The Fall 2009 semester marks the start of my fifth year as the dean of the College of Human Ecology. It is a great time to be a part of this amazing place. We continue to work strategically and purposefully on every level for one reason—our students.
Today we are looking at ways to expand our majors and degree offerings. With new programs, we have added faculty and staff to provide our students with the best possible educational experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. Our College Research Center supports interdisciplinary research, scholarship and entrepreneurship.
Physical space renovations are underway in the College of Human Ecology’s future home in Lyman Hall to bring together most of our departments under one roof over the next three years. Working in the same physical space will allow us to further the collaboration that already takes place as we focus on our common goal of educating students on the human being as an individual, in a family, in a group or in the community.
We are committed to developing our students as leaders and good global citizens who don’t simply solve problems but whose life mission is to find a better way to answer the needs of our society.
As Dean, I couldn’t be more excited about the work we are doing in the College of Human Ecology and our opportunity to offer students the educational experiences of their lives. That our students have selected Syracuse University and the College of Human Ecology is an honor and a privilege we take very seriously.
It is my honor to introduce you to the College of Human Ecology. I hope you will be as impressed as I continue to be with our faculty, staff and students and all they do to make our College one of the most inspiring and innovative entities on the SU campus.
Sincerely,

Diane Lyden Murphy
Dean
